Role Title: Social Media and Digital Comms Coordinator (1 day per week*)
Duration: 1 year (48 weeks paid, 4 weeks unpaid)
Location: Remote working, based in the Global South
Start: 1 April 2025 or sooner
Salary: $200 USD per day*
Hours: *1 day = 8 hours per week, spread or concentrated
Contract type: Consultancy – taxes are the responsibility of the consultant,
no sick leave or holiday pay included
Reports to: Communications Lead

The Role
Yes to Life No to Mining is a global network of 60+ organisations, communities and platforms acting in solidarity across the planet. We are a network of and for Indigenous Peoples, impacted communities, local organisations, and networks who are standing up for their Right to Say No to Mining and to advance life-sustaining post-extractive futures.
This is an exciting opportunity to support our digital communications, with a particular focus on social media. This role is ideal for a digital communications professional, ideally based in the Global South, fluent in English and Spanish, and with a demonstrable track record of working for environmental justice and/or human rights campaigns. If you’re a passionate storyteller and an organised, motivated self-starter, we’d love to hear from you.
Main responsibilities:
- Social Media – you will revise and update our Social Media Strategy in collaboration with the Communications Lead. You will create content, using tools such as Canva, and post strategically and regularly (according to the strategy) across our chosen platforms, using a platform management tool such as Buffer, to grow engagement and following.
- Web management – you will help keep our website up-to-date and ensure the user journey is effective and best serving our audiences and aims, with all content search engine optimised. You will assist in posting updates from our members or other relevant material on our blog. You will support website re-visioning and improvements over time.
- Newsletter – you will assist both the Communications Lead and Membership Lead in the gathering of material and the creation of our new monthly newsletter on Substack.
- Campaign delivery – you will support the Coordinators to develop and deliver campaigns that amplify key stories, achievements or calls to action.
- Recording and archiving – keeping online filing systems up-to-date around communications, to facilitate seamless collaboration with a remote team. This will include archiving social media analysis, website analysis, video recordings, press coverage, and photography.
- Any other duties relating to digital communications.
Person Specification:
Experience
Essential Experience
- Demonstrable experience and understanding of creating engaging, informative written and visual content for a range of platforms including social media, website and e-newsletters
- Demonstrable experience of working remotely across geographies and languages
- Demonstrable understanding of and interest in the environmental and human rights issues that YLNM’s work focuses on
Desirable Experience
- Experience of working in or with a grassroots network or organisation
- Experience communicating issues relating to mining and the extractive economy and holistic approaches for systemic change
Essential Skills
- Fluent in English and Spanish
- Skilled use of Canva, WordPress or a similar website creation tool, Buffer or similar social media management tool, Substack or e-newsletter software as well as video creation tools and video platforms like YouTube
- Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating honesty, integrity and cooperation
- A natural communicator with strong written and verbal skills
- A creative thinker with an eye for design and attention to detail
- Ability to work across multiple projects with competing deadlines
- A can-do attitude and natural problem solver
- A conscientious team player with the capacity to work both autonomously and collaboratively
- A curious learner with an open mind and willingness to adapt
- Organised and meticulous, with ability to keep ordered filing system
